Presented by the Department of Performing Arts (DPA)
Directed by Tara Giordano Adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher from the original by Nikolai Gogol
When the crooked leaders of a Russian province learn that an undercover inspector from the capital will pay them a surprise visit, a case of mistaken identity sends the town into panic and greed. A sharp satire of stupidity, vulgar self-interest, and political corruption, Nikolai Gogol’s nineteenth-century comedy will feel surprisingly cathartic for American audiences today.
